Scaling Clinical Logic into Digital Infrastructure.

Technology & AI: System Innovation

The Surgeon-Architect Philosophy

Technology in healthcare is only as effective as the clinical logic that powers it. My approach as an innovator is not to replace the physician but to scale their expertise.

By serving as both a surgeon and a CTO, I am able to "translate without diluting"—taking the nuanced decision-making of the operating room and architecting it into repeatable, high-performance digital systems.

Technology & AI: System Innovation

CareNexus: The Engine for Scalable Recovery

The CareNexus platform, developed at Arthur Health, represents the shift from static medical records to dynamic recovery systems. As CTO, I lead the development of an architecture that eliminates "hidden cracks" in care by automating the most critical recovery pathways.

  • Clinical AI Integration: We embed AI directly into care pathways—from initial triage to postoperative monitoring—to reduce variability and ensure evidence-driven care.
  • Actionable Data-Driven Insights: Our platform transforms raw data (wearables, clinical notes, and patient-reported outcomes) into actionable understanding for providers and insurers.
  • Scaling Personalized Care: We use machine learning to develop individualized recovery roadmaps that adapt in real-time as patients progress toward their goals.

Core Areas of System Innovation

My work focuses on the "algorithm-hardware-ethics trinity," ensuring that every technological leap is grounded in clinical relevance and safety.

Our innovation strategy focuses on three core areas to enhance healthcare delivery.

1. Predictive Analytics: Utilizes deep learning to forecast potential complications before they occur, enabling proactive interventions that prevent adverse events and hospitalizations.

2. Workflow Automation: Streamlines complex-care assessments and automates repetitive administrative tasks, reducing clinician burden and allowing providers to focus on high-value clinical decisions.

3. Objective Outcome Measurement: Leverages AI and NLP to identify markers of treatment success within clinical notes, providing quantifiable data that validates patient progress and standardizes excellence.

Demonstrating Impact through Technology

My leadership in health informatics extends beyond strategy into the hands-on design of platforms that reach millions.

  • Arthur Health Ecosystem: Partnering with Microsoft to build a secure, cloud-based clinically integrated network that reduced patient wait times by 80%.
  • DADOS Platform: Directing the development of electronic data capture systems at UHN’s Techna Institute to advance translational research.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Bridging the gap between clinicians and software engineers to ensure that AI solutions align with established clinical workflows and ethical standards.

The Future: Predictive Health Management

The next step in my work as CTO is the transition from assistive to semi-autonomous reasoning systems. By incorporating predictive health management and real-time task orchestration, we are building a future where technology is a seamless collaborator in the quest to relieve pain and restore function at a global scale.
